Abstract

Stephen and Hannah Adkins collection consists of the genealogical research of Stephen and Hannah Adkins from 1964-1999. It contains genealogical charts, manuscripts, notes, extracts, photographs and newspaper clippings documenting families of the Delmarva Peninsula. It includes copies of the service records of Cornelius and Samuel Coffin, who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. The collection also contains a ledger from the A.S. Lewis General Store in Vienna, Maryland from 1883.

Biographical History

Stephen Lambert Adkins Jr was born October 28, 1918 in Salisbury, Maryland, the son of Stephen and Ethel Adkins. He served in the US Army during World War II. He worked as an engineer at the Delmarva Power electrical plant at Vienna, Maryland, for 40 years. Adkins died on April 22, 2000.

Hannah LeCompte Adkins was born May 30, 1925 in Vienna, Maryland, the daughter of H. Percy and Olga LeCompte. She worked as a homemaker, and died on July 17, 2005.

The couple married in 1944 and had two sons and two daughters. They were avid genealogists, and conducted research for over 30 years.
