Folklife Collection - The Impact of Hawaiin Folklore on the Erwin Family

Folklife Collection - The Mennonites

In 1990, former Salisbury University Student Elizabeth Miller collected folk material. Her project focuses on the folklife of the Mennonite Community. Her paper describes in details the way of living of Mennonites, explaining in the process the main differences between the more conservative Old Order Mennonites and the progressive Mennonites. In addition to the background essay, she also interviewed several people to inquire about the influence of being a Mennonite on their career. Two of her informants were artists. Another interview involves two students engaged into a feminist movement at Goshen College.

Folklife Collection - The Personal Experience Narrative: A Jewish Immigrant Success Story

In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents in 1984, Salisbury University students and teachers collected folk life material. For her project, Christine Krispie Ferber put the emphasis on personal experience narrative. She interviewed Mr. Harold Greenspan, a Jewish businessman who operated on the boardwalk of Ocean City, Maryland. The interview covers the personal story of Mr. Greenspan from Poland to the United States, and how he became prosperous. His personal story also reveal some historical facts about the anti-semitic environment in Europe of that time from his perspective, and the difficulties he had to face when settling in Ocean City. Some Jewish customs and traditions are also discussed. Tape and photographs enclosed.
